This artwork, User Profile, observes the material dimensions of portraying things and interacting digitally. For instance, while surfing in the internet it is painful to think of the actual cooling modules needed to keep the data centers going, thus enabling the googling itself.
According to the new syllabus of the Finnish comprehensive school, IT should be used while teaching any of the subjects. This, however, does neither portray or discuss the material grounds of the digital culture.
This artwork reminds how producing one’s own digital images is strongly built through co-operating with the interests of the owners of the given platform. This being the case, the visibility and the transparence of exchanging information between the owners and the actors is not always reciprocal.
“My eyes hurt – flame retardant chemicals in the veins?”
Pipsu Isola is interested in the preconditions of artistic actions aswell as in strenghtening the self-determination of an artist. Isola’s work often portrays the subjects next to the obervations guided by presumptions, by attaching other, suprising details of the given space to the actual artwork. Isola is one of the eight co-founders of Oksasenkatu 11 gallery. She has graduated in 2009 from the department of painting at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts. Her exhibition On line can be seen at Pisto Gallery, 24th Oct – 18th Nov, in Vantaa.
